myRio Remote Controlled Car

The goal of this group project was to create a remote-controlled car. We used myRio for the controller and LabView for programming. Our team took the approach to control the car through a tilt-sensing remote. The car contained one myRio and the remote utilized the on-board accelerometer from a second myRio. The outputs of the accelerometer allowed us to drive the car. The steering wheel we used, which had a laser-cut wheel-shaped housing, is pictured below.
To drive the car forward/backward, we simply detected whether the remote was being tilted forward/backward and scaled the speed of the wheels based on the angle at which the remote was tilted. To turn the car, we had one wheel spin while the other remained stationary, so we could more accurately project which direction we wanted to drive the car in. The following link contains a video of the car in action, as well our group's LabVIEW code for the project. Pictures below show the side and front views of the car.
